Skopelos was founded by the God of Wine, Dionysus's,

    son, Stafylos.

         A local legend tells of a terrifying dragon that                      appeared on the island preying on inhabitants. It                 is said that the island's patron saint confronted                   and vanquished the beast at a place now

                    known as Dragon's Rift, a rock formation 

                      where the dragon jumped into the sea.

                            forests making it one of the most                                          verdant islands in the Aegean.​
